Getting Started
In one of our previous pages we talked about a $5 music CD survey. It is great to be able to make a quick $5, and doing that once is enough to a hamburger and fries, but it is not much of an income opportunity.
You need a way to be able take $1, $5, $10, $20 surveys over and over again. In other words, if you’re serious about making money, you need to approach this online opportunity as a business. You need to be organized, have a plan and follow it. There are several preliminary steps that should be taken that will help you work more effectively and efficiently.
Set Up a Dedicated Email Address
One of the first steps is to set up an email address to be used exclusively for your survey work. The means of communication with the survey sites will be via email. A dedicated email address will keep your survey email separate from your personal email.
Make sure that you have “spam” filtering turned off for your survey email address, otherwise some of your survey email may be blocked. View every email as a potential income opportunity, so you want to make sure that you receive all of them.
Your email address will be the only way the survey companies have to contact you. It is better to get a free account with a web-based service, such as Yahoo, that you can maintain even if you change internet service providers.

Tips
After setting up your survey email address, another important step toward getting started with online surveys is setting up a PayPal account.
Many of the market research companies offer the option of receiving your survey payments through a PayPal account. It is not required to have a PayPal account, but I highly recommend it. PayPal is one of the largest financial processors on the internet and an account with them is very secure. After setting up your account, you will be able to send and receive money electronically.
You can connect your PayPal account to an existing bank account and transfer money to or from that account. If you don’t want to connect to your bank account, for a small fee they will mail you a check. One of their free personal accounts will be adequate for your survey needs.
A premium or business account is not necessary and they charge a fee for those types of accounts, so stick with the personal account.
If a survey site offers payment via PayPal, all you need to do is give the survey site the email address that you have connected to your PayPal account and the payment will be transferred to your account. They can only make deposits; no one can withdraw from your account without your permission
